Fashion Line

This is a new adventure I've started and am very excited about it!  Every May, Palomar College puts on a full fashion runway show at the Escondido California Center for the Arts showing off their students' work. I have decided to create a line of women's wear to be shown at this event. In order to be a featured designer, one has to create at least 5 cohesive looks in their line. My plan is to have at least 7, and they must be completed at the end of the Fall semester in December.  Below you will see pictures and comments about my progress.  Feel free to chime in with thoughts and ideas!

So I will fill in more information about how I finished th process later, but I wanted to get the video of the show posted ASAP.  It's not great quality because the lights were so bright, but at least it's a glimpse of how things turned out!

The Naming Game...

So, by the time this class ends in December, I need to have some sort of catchy name for my line.  Hopefully as I create more pieces I will get inspired; but at the moment, I have no idea what to call it.  I would LOVE some suggestions!  I think I want something that ties in the foresty feel...  HELP PLEASE! :D

This was the first piece I started working on.  The main fabric is a beautiful 2-tone taffeta-type material, the branches and pocket detail are real leather.  It is fully lined with an invisible zipper under the arm.  As you can see... it's not quite finished.  I still need to do some inside finishing work and put up the hem.

Next we were asked to draw 5 versions of each look we wanted to create with minor variations in each. I only got a chance to do 3 of each, but here are the basic concepts for each of my 8 designs...

Client and Color Story

So as my ideas continued to solidify, I started thinking about who would wear my clothes.  I finally came up with a loose profile.

She is someone who is between the ages of 25-35, she works at an art gallery or antique dealer in an artsy area (like Laguna) and deals with high end clients; she sometimes gets invited to fancy events.  She is a bit quirky, maybe visiting Renaissance Fairs and other conventions in h...

Theme and Client

One of the first things we were asked to do in this class was come up with an idea of who we wanted to sell to, and for what season.  They wanted us to get very specific, so that our line would be as cohesive as possible.  This turned out to be quite a challenge for me.  When costuming a show, I go through a very specific process; research the period, read about the character (economic status, job, any quirks. etc.), figure out the time of ...
